Christmas Tree Disposal



Happy New Year!

For most families, today marks the end of the holiday season. This is traditionally the day to pack up the decorations, find homes for the gifts, and take down the tree. And if you’ve opted for a real tree, that raises the question of what to do with it. Thankfully, there are many ways to dispose of your tree that are convenient and friendly to the environment.

There are a number of tree chipping events and options here in the Tri-Cities. Before disposing of your tree be sure to remove all of the decorations and tinsel. Then find a solution that works for you:

Port Moody

  • January 9 and 10, 9am-4pm, Fire Hall #1
    Chipping is by donation, with a $5 minimum. Proceeds go to the Fire Fighters Burn Fund. Coffee, hot chocolate and vehicle vacuuming services are also available.
  • Curbside pick-up of Christmas trees is not available in Port Moody.
  • Coquitlam

  • January 2 and 3, 9am-4pm, Town Centre Stadium Parking Lot
    Proceeds to benefit the Kinsmen Club and 1st Kinsmen Scout Group
  • January 2 and 3, 9am-5pm, Mundy Park Gravel Lot (off Hillcrest Ave)
    Proceeds to benefit The Friends of Mundy Park
  • January 3, 9am-4pm, Centennial Secondary Staff Parking Lot
    Proceeds to benefit the Kinsmen Club and Centennial Music Department
  • January 3, 9am-3pm, Canadian Tire (on Sequin Drive)
    Proceeds to benefit the Scouts Francophones
  • Curbside tree pickup is available if trees are cut up into lengths of no more than 90cm/36”, bundled and placed at the curb by 7am on your scheduled collection day.
  • Port Coquitlam

  • January 2 to 23, 10am-4pm, Art Knapp Plantland & Florist (on Dominion Ave)
    By donation with a $5 minimum, proceeds to benefit Juvenile Diabetes Research.
  • January 2 and 3, 9am-4pm, #1 Fire Hall (on Broadway St)
    By donation with a $5 minimum, proceeds to benefit the Fire Fighters Burn Fund. All wood chips created will be used in City parks and trails.
  • January 2 and 3
    The firefighters will also pick up your tree for a minimum $10 donation. Call 604.927.5405 for more information.
  • January 9 and 10, 9am-4pm, Safeway in Shaughnessy Station
    By donation with a $5 minimum, proceeds to benefit the Port Coquitlam Scouts and Hawthorne Lodge.
  • Curbside pickup is available in green waste carts, provided that the tree is cut up in pieces that are up to 3″ in diameter and 40″ long.
  • The City of Port Coquitlam even created this handy-dandy video about how to dispose of your tree in your green cart. Kudos to Councillor Darrell Penner on his first-rate performance. That man can wield a mean pair of clippers, I must say!
