Yesterday my son turned four years old. In honour of the occasion, the time seemed ripe to round up some birthday party venues here in the Tri-Cities. We usually opt for a home party in our family, but if you want to avoid all the fuss and muss, there are some great birthday party spots here in Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody. Let someone else deal with the set-up and clean-up!

4Cats

With two studios in the Tri-Cities – Port Moody and Coquitlam’s Austin Station – there are lots of chances for a fun and creative birthday party at 4Cats for kids aged three to 16. Make your own fairy, knight or pirate. Splatter paint. Make some pop art. Follow Georgia O’Keeffe’s lead. There are many options to choose from. Parties start at $175 in Coquitlam and $185 in Port Moody for up to 10 children. Parties last an hour and forty-five minutes, and include instruction and the use of a private studio for food and gift opening, as well as materials used during the party.

City of Coquitlam

Coquitlam Parks and Recreation offers a wide variety of birthday party options for kids from toddlers to teens. Prices start at less than $100, and vary depending on the venue and number of children. You can skate, swim, play sports, make crafts and a whole lot more. Most packages include a party leader to keep the fun rolling. There’s not a lot included, but this is one of the most affordable birthday party options in the Tri-Cities.

City of Port Coquitlam

Whether toddler rumble and tumble is just the birthday party ticket, or celebrating at the Jelly Bean Dance is more your speed, you’ll find lots on offer through Port Coquitlam Parks and Recreation. You can swim, craft, skate and more. Parties start at $125 for most parties, for 12 guests and no food. Parties include a recreation attendant, party room set-up and and clean-up. food, goody bags and balloons are also available for purchase.

City of Port Moody

Not to be outdone, Port Moody Parks and Recreation has some fabulous birthday party offeringss as well. There are lots of options to choose from, for kids aged one to 14 years. Party at the complex, at the jungle gym, in the studio, on the hill, on the mountain or on the ice. Most parties start at $140.00 for up to 16 participants. Parties run two hours, and include a party leader and various theme options. You’ll bring your own food, beverages, plates, napkins and cutlery. Plus, for an extra $25, you can upgrade to the eco-friendly party package.

Evergreen Cultural Centre

If you have an art-lover on your hands, you may want to head to Evergreen Cultural Centre in Coquitlam for your birthday party. There are six options to choose from: art, drama, dance, musical theatre, music and rhythm, and clay (starting in the fall). Prices start at $175 for up to 15 kids. You’ll have 75 minutes of supervised activity with a professional instructor, plus 45 minutes for snacks, birthday cake, opening gifts and wrap-up. PLUS you have half an hour to set up and decorate before your guests arrive. If you really want to kick things up a notch, combine it with a play from their Family Series, for a birthday party that is sure to wow everyone.

Kindercafe

For the preschool set, Kindercafe in Port Coquitlam may be just the ticket. You pick the colour and bring the cake, and they do the rest. A theme party for seven kids starts at $179, and includes decorations, a balloon for each child, a sandwich and juice box for each child, a goody bag for each child, and a pot of coffee for the parents. This is one all-inclusive birthday party package! If you want the space all to yourself you can also book a private party, and they’ll close the doors to the public, starting at $279. Note that children eight and over are not allowed to play on the Kindercafe equipment – this is a space created for the little ones!

Koko’s Activity Centre

There’s not a kid in the Tri-Cities who doesn’t love Koko’s in Port Moody, which makes it a natural choice for your birthday party. Prices start at $12.50 per child (a minimum of eight kids is required) and you’ll get a party room for two hours, plus unlimited play time after your party ends. You know your kids will sleep well after this one. There are also optional food packages, goodie bags and the choice to do a paint explosion party. Just remember that socks are required for everyone, because you’ll be taking your shoes off when you play.

Leigh Square Community Arts Village

Be a star with a theatrical birthday party at Leigh Square in Port Coquitlam. You’ll enjoy improv, theatre games, crafts, interactive storytelling, dancing, music and more. Parties include a host, props, supplies, music and games. Prices start at $175 for up to 12 children, and you’ll have your choice of theme. Pick from princess, pop star, Project Runway, pirates, superheroes, choose your own adventure, wild west and welcome to the jungle.

Omega Gymnastics

If jumping off a trampoline into a big foam pit sounds like your idea of a good time, you may want to hold your birthday party at Omega Gymnastics in Coquitlam. Certified coaches provide supervision, so your kids can have fun in a safe environment, and you can relax while they do the work. Two hour parties start at $125 for up to 12 children, and optional upgrades include a private room to eat, as well as pizza and drinks.

Port Moody Station Museum

If your birthday girl or boy is a train buff, Port Moody Station Museum is just the ticket. Their parties are geared towards kids aged four to ten, and feature a railway scavenger hunt, heritage or railway games, and private time for cake and gifts on the railcar. They’ll gear the activities to your child and your guests. Parties start at $175 for up to 16 children, and include two hours at the museum, a leader to act as host, use of a small kitchen, free parking and all materials used during the party.
