Get Your Knit on at Black Sheep Yarns

Black Sheep Yarns Port Moody

Whether you’re an experienced knitter or crocheter, or a keen beginner, it’s important to have the right tools get the best results. The type of needles you use, and the type of yarn all matter. Depending on what you’re making you will need to use different kinds of materials. This is where the only specialty yarn store in Tri-Cities comes in. Located in Port Moody, Black Sheep Yarns sells specialty yarns, needles, patterns, books and accessories. Their accessories are my most favourite part; they carry many really unique buttons that are handcrafted in Nova Scotia. These buttons are made from shell, wood, or ceramic, making your project stand out from the rest.

Specialty Yarn Store in Port Moody

Black Sheep Yarns Port Moody Yarn ShopAs a premium shop Black Sheep is a little on the pricier side of the yarn stores, however this is in part due to the good quality of yarn. They sell Alpaca and Angora yarns, as well as different types of wool, cotton and more. This makes the shop a good place to try your hand at different yarns, instead of the common acrylic yarn that pops up almost everywhere. Another reason for the slightly elevated prices is that you not only buy the yarn, but you also buy the service. Any time you buy yarn from Black Sheep Yarns, you are welcome to come back to the store with any questions about your project. Helen, the store owner and the instructors she invites have many years of experience. They are all excellent knitters, crocheters and fibre artists, and they’re happy to give you advice and suggestions when you are stuck.

Try Something New at Black Sheep Yarns

Black Sheep Yarns Port Moody Yarn ShopIn addition to great supplies, Black Sheep Yarns offers classes and knit nights. Knit Nights happen Mondays from 7:00 to 9:00pm. The events are free, and everyone from any skill level is welcome to attend. This is a great way to get advice, pick up some new skills and socialize while doing something you love or trying something new. If you are still struggling to find a new hobby and were thinking of taking up knitting or other hands on craft like needle felting, there are classes available. You must register for classes in person or by phone, and they need a minimum of four people attending. So if you want to spend the night out with your girlfriends, or spend some mother-daughter quality time – this might be fun to try. More information about classes is available here.
